About

Rebooting Democracy is the Bus Project’s conference for people-powered politics. On March 26-28, 350 next-generation leaders will come together to grow their policy smarts, hone their political skills, choose shovel-ready policy priorities for 2010-11, and compete in Oregon Idol, where anyone with a good idea can audition for the chance to make their democracy dreams a reality. It all means Oregon politics is savvier, more visionary and ready for action in the new decade.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF GAME-CHANGERS

Rebooting Democracy is the moment when today's Oregon leaders can pass the baton to the rising generation of civic hot shots. Throughout the weekend, the new kids on the Bus will mix and mingle with the good folks currently writing our laws and running our businesses. They will face the state's biggest challenges and engage our most exciting opportunities. Through the signature Leadership Lunch, issue panels, and skills trainings, we'll drive the most active, diverse and forward-thinking generation of leaders this state has ever seen.

SHOVEL-READY POLICY CONTEST

Long story short, the Shovel-Ready Policy Contest is the anti-smoky-backroom of Oregon politics. It’s a transparent priority-setting session where Oregon’s volunteers and civic all-stars decide what to champion over the next two years. It’s a volunteer army democratically directing their own resources and then pledging time and money to make it happen. The winners of the Shovel-Ready Policy Contest will receive a major jolt of people-power, courtesy of the Bus Project and the talented folks at Rebooting Democracy.

OREGON IDOL

Saturday night, we'll turn our sights towards the long-term with Oregon Idol. Scrappy ideas will compete for the high-level civic capital they need to get off the ground. Each contestant will have a few minutes to pitch their heart out, our panel of judges will weigh in and ultimately the audience decides by texting in our votes for who becomes Oregon Idol. At the end, a few top-notch ideas get enough goods to start on the path to reality.
